Anti-viral Properties of Manuka Honey

According to scientific evidence, there is a strong link between Manuka Honey and killing the influenza (flu) virus. Scientists who have studied the antiviral effects of honey have reported strong anti-influenza activity with manuka honey. Led by Professor Ken Watanabe from Nagasaki University in Japan, a team of expert scientists endeavored to discover and study all the amazing benefits of this God-given honey. According to the findings documented in the reports, honey stopped the replication of the flu virus.

"Manuka honey efficiently inhibited influenza virus replication (IC50 = 3.6 ± 1.2 mg/mL; CC50 = 82.3 ± 2.2 mg/mL; selective index = 22.9), which is related to its virucidal effects. When the influenza virus was pre-treated with manuka honey before the cells were infected, the virus was nullified and was reported inactive.

“Influenza viruses are a serious threat to human health. Thus, there is an urgent requirement for the development of novel anti-influenza virus drugs,” explained Prof Watanabe.

“Natural honey has been reported to exhibit antiviral activities against rubella virus and varicella-zoster virus and is used to treat recurrent herpes simplex lesions.”

Further reporting in Professor Watanabe's documentation strongly suggested the interaction between anti-viral medicines and the effects of honey.
